In December, members approved the Sonoran Renovation Project with a total of 969 (64.6%) equity members voting in the affirmative of all ballots cast – and with a total of 1,500 equity members (75.4% of all those eligible to vote) casting ballots from October 27 – December 1, 2014.
The renovation will take the current Sonoran Clubhouse facility from approximately 25,000 to more than 42,600 square feet.
“This is an exciting time for the club” said Director of Tennis, Spa and Fitness, Matt Wooldridge. “I think members will enjoy the new fitness and spa experience that the expanded and redesigned space will offer.” Matt pointed out that the Sonoran staff is also looking forward to a bigger, more contemporary facility that will enable them to expand their classes and introduce more programming to members.
When completed, the new Sonoran Clubhouse will offer an increased fitness and training area, more group exercise space, an enhanced spa with a new manicure/pedicure salon, a quick-serve café, bigger locker rooms, new poolside restrooms and family locker rooms, a remodeled boutique, a more spacious Youth Activities Center and children’s grass play area, along with larger indoor and outdoor gathering spaces.
Construction will consist of two phases starting towards the end of the first quarter of 2015, as soon as construction permits are approved by the City of Scottsdale.
It’s estimated that renovation will be completed in 16 months. Please watch for construction progress updates and further communications as the renovation gets underway.

Unique to Desert Mountain is the private hiking and Equestrian trail system.
The hiking trails consist of more than fifteen miles of trail segments that offer a wide range of hiking experiences with varying degrees of difficulty, leading to the Continental Mountain’s eastern slope and its dramatic Sonoran desert panoramas. Pass through Saguaro cactus forests, a colorful riparian basin and up to a scenic point, with views stretching all the way to Tucson’s Catalina Mountains.
Climb to a 4,100-foot elevation to view local landmarks such as Skull Mesa, New River Mesa, Elephant Butte – and an incredible 90 miles west, all the way to Harquahala Peak beyond the town of Wickenburg.
Be sure to watch out for the slow-moving, indigenous Desert Tortoise along the way.
Desert Mountain recently received the ‘American Trails Developer Award’ from the non-profit American Trails organization.
AND DID YOU KNOW….
…that the average size of a full-grown Saguaro cactus is approximately 30 feet tall and it has about five ‘arms’?
The Saguaro also provides shelter and sustenance for a wide variety of bird life.
According to the National Park Service, the tallest Saguaro ever discovered was 78 feet tall. That particular Saguaro was probably well over 200 years old!
